In 1980 Cameroun, Bill Loko appeared with his first vinyl titled Salsa Makossa which was a huge hit. It’s post disco grandeur, a dash of glam rock riffs, crossed with the watery cords of soukous/zouk and francophone beats. The strobe light was invented for this.
Nen Lembo is off the same record but whole other feel. It’s the yin to Salsa Makossa’s yen. Loko vocals aren’t the focus, rather the melody is more atmospheric.
Is a single off Loko’s first full record titled ‘Dipita’.
I will upload more from Mister Bill Loko once I get my paws on his 3rd and final record called ‘Africa Wake Up’
